Educational Involvement

Overall Experience

Growing up during a time when women's opportunities were limited, Nancy Kutsup's career choices evolved significantly. At the age of 10, she developed a keen interest in drawing, which grew stronger as she became older. Inspired by her two older sisters who were teachers, Mrs. Kutsup decided to pursue a career as an art teacher.

Following her graduation from college, Mrs. Kutsup found that teaching positions were scarce, so she continued working as a bookkeeper. After having two children, she decided to apply for a teaching position. During a PTA meeting, Mrs. Kutsup learned that the art teacher at Garfield High School (GHS) was retiring, so she applied for the position. Mr. Tantillo, the principal of GHS at the time, remembered her from high school and granted her an interview. He immediately expressed interest in hiring her.

Mrs. Kutsup dedicated herself fully to providing Garfield students with the best possible education in art. After 15 years of teaching and participating in numerous committees, she decided to utilize her administrative certification and apply for the position of administrative assistant. This role connected her closely with state requirements and propelled her continued professional advancement. During an administrative restructuring, Mrs. Kutsup was selected as a vice principal at GHS, where she remained until her retirement.
