Both of Nancy Kutsup's children attended Garfield Public Schools. Her daughter attended Thomas Jefferson (TJ) #9 from Kindergarten through 3rd grade and moved to Woodrow Wilson (WW) #5 for 4th through 6th grade when TJ #9 became the middle school. Mrs. Kutsup's son attended WW #5 from Kindergarten through 6th grade before moving on to the original middle school. Both children then attended Garfield High School (GHS).

Her daughter played the trumpet from 4th grade through 12th grade, while her son played the saxophone for two years before he had to choose between wrestling and band. Mrs. Kutsup's daughter was part of the inaugural swim team, and her son was a wrestler. Through their involvement, she became deeply involved with athletics.

In addition to athletics, Mrs. Kutsup served as a class advisor for both of their classes.
